And why do I need to know about it for meetings and events?
The United Nations adopted the global indicator framework for sustainable development on July 6, 2017. This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity-bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path by 2030.
The goals and targets will stimulate action over the next eleven years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet.

This year, we’ll explore how we as event professionals can shift our way of working to support these goals. Specifically we will look at Development Goal 12 that will “ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.” By 2030, the goal is to halve the per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.
To do this, we will need to disrupt our food and beverage patterns in the event industry. We don’t need to re-learn how we approach events; we just need to be creative, work more efficiently and responsibly. In the coming months, we will look at the roles of each event stakeholder and what we all can be doing now to reach these goals.
